Description
In Senses: Feeling Sound, an evening of improvisation, physical experience and poetry.
Duo of Luc Houtkamp (NL) and Oğuz Büyükberber (TR), with Giulio Stermieri‘s layered sound palette, and poetry by Antoine Cassar.
Malta-based saxophonist Luc Houtkamp and Turkish clarinettist Oğuz Büyükberber are known for their work in both jazz and electronic music, particularly in an improvised setting.
Celebrated for his clarinet work, as well as improvised modular synth work, Büyükberber is an artist with 95% vision loss. As such, his music and visual art also act as spaces to explore personal trauma and experience, while also highlighting different disabilities and their impact on perception and communication.
Giulio Stermieri is an Italian keyboardist and electronic musician whose work spans jazz, free improvisation, and textural electronics. With a background in both contemporary music and the avant-garde jazz tradition, Stermieri brings a richly layered sonic palette, ranging from subtle harmonic gestures to bold electronic textures that complement and challenge the acoustic elements on stage.
The evening opens with poetry by Antoine Cassar, reflecting on hyperacusis and the paradoxes of sound perception. Cassar’s texts explore the thresholds between hearing and feeling, silence and memory, language and vibration.
