Myths never die. They just find new voices. Miti Miti is for the whole family. Adults and kids can enjoy themselves together, in a fantastical place where the ordinary becomes extraordinary, and almost everything becomes topsy-turvy: the theatre. This is interactive theatre. Children (and adults too) will be able to choose between characters, between, let’s say, Pegasus and Medusa.

Description

Loosely inspired by The Orchard Book of First Greek Myths by Saviour Pirotta, MITI MITI draws on Greek and Mycenaean mythology to reimagine ancient stories that have endured across generations. Guided by the boundless imagination of director Sean Buhagiar and brought to life through Albert Garzia’s captivating score, this vibrant production invites young audiences to become active storytellers.

Each performance places the power of choice in the audience’s hands: which myth will take centre stage? Will they soar with the bold Pegasus, face Medusa alongside the courageous Perseus, or witness the tragic consequences of King Midas’ golden touch? The story unfolds according to their vote, making every show a unique theatrical experience.

At the heart of MITI MITI is its democratic spirit. By allowing audiences to shape the narrative, the production transforms myth into an interactive adventure that introduces children to timeless tales while exploring themes of ambition, courage, curiosity, and the irony of fate. James Dimech’s fantastical work turns the stage into a magical gateway to ancient Greece, sparking imagination and wonder at every turn.

Blending storytelling, choreography, and song, MITI MITI delights, inspires, and educates, celebrating the power of imagination, choice, and shared storytelling. Premiering at the 2024 ŻiguŻajg International Arts Festival for Children and Young People, produced by Fondazzjoni Kreattività, the production was supported by a Development Grant from Teatru Malta’s international partner, the European Theatre Convention. Following performances at Teatro Due in Parma, MITI MITI now continues its journey across Europe—marking just the beginning of its myth-filled adventure.

The performance makes use of strobing lights, smoke and haze machines, and flash lighting effects. Magic tricks involving pyrotechnics will be included. Loud music will be played throughout the performance. No intermission is planned; the performance runs for approximately 1 hour.
